This is the time of miracles

- Catherine GalassoVigorito Columnist

Snow was falling outside, and all was peaceful and still. In quiet contemplation, a little boy was home looking outside the picture window at the glorious winter wonderland. Then, he scampered into the kitchen and said to his mother, “Mommy, I want to see God.” The mother stood close by her son and answered, “No one can see God.”

So, the next week, the boy said to his babysitter. “I want to see God.” Sitting at a table getting ready to read him a story, the babysitter replied, “No one can see God.” The boy thought for a moment and frowned.

Shortly after, the boy decided to go to his Sunday school teacher. She greeting him and the boy quickly declared, “I want to see God.” The teacher put her hand on the boy’s small shoulder and uttered, “God is a spirit… and no one can see Him.”

Over the months that followed, the little boy thought often about his unanswered request. One glorious spring day, the young boy went fishing with his grandfather. Amongst the beauty of nature, the boy enquired, hesitantly, “Grandpa,” he said, “can you see God?”

The grandfather’s eyes shone with a glorious light, and a beautiful smile came across his mouth. “Yes, I can see God.” His heart and spirit were filled with joy. And the little boy looked at him with awe and wonder. He looked around, “Where, where is God?” the boy questioned. The grandfather gently took his beloved grandson in his arms and looked closely at his innocent face. “I am looking at God now… I see Him in the blue water of this pond, I see Him in the trees blossoms, and most importantly, my precious child, I see Him in you.”

In an instant, the boy was happy.

At this very special moment, refocus your vision; adjust your sight to see the world through such eyes. And miraculously, almost instantly, your life will change.

“Open my eyes so that I may behold wondrous things” (Psalm 119:18).

This is the time of miracles. Because of God, you can always have hope. He will never leave you or forsake you. God is your rest, your deliverer, your healer. Right now, God is at work to help you in a special way. He is going to heal, restore and mend everything in your life.

I love the adage, “Do not look at the mountains; instead look to God who created the mountains.” If He orders the glimmering stars, keeping them set in their courses, He can certainly bring your God-inspired dreams to pass, according to His great design.

So let God be in your heart and in your thinking. Let Him be in your speaking and in your eyes and look on all things with love. Live in the now and recognize in others, in nature, and in your heart, the radiance of God’s own face.

Awhile ago, I read a parable called “The Precious Present,” written by Spencer Johnson, in which the author shares a simple path for the reader to follow in the search of peace. In the story, the Precious Present was just that: The Present.

Could it be that we are not as happy as we could be because we are focused on what happened long ago? Don’t berate yourself or be trapped by any guilt or mistakes of the past. Be thankful for the lessons learned even the tough ones. Then, let the negative things go. Think of it this way: You can’t drive forward safely in a car while looking backward. If a negative thought of the past or a worry about the future comes into your mind, immediately discard it and think of something else. Don’t allow unconstructive thoughts in your mind, muddying your present moments. Enjoy where you are now, be thankful, and use gratitude as a way of life. Do not focus on the past; nor the future; but on God’s ‘precious present.’

“To a large degree, the measure of our peace of mind is determined by how much we are able to live in the present moment.

“Irrespective of what happened yesterday or last year, and what may or may not happen tomorrow, the present moment is where you are—always.” Richard Carlson. Once, I heard about a woman who was upset because of the heavy cross that she carried. When she looked at her friends and neighbors, she wished that she could change places with them and carry their cross instead. “Surely their cross would be lighter than mine,” she thought to herself.

That night the woman had a dream. In her dream, she was in a grand room surrounded by crosses of various shapes and sizes. Both large and small, the room was filled to capacity with crosses.

As the woman looked to the left, there was an exquisite cross that was covered with jewels. It was lovely, so she walked over to it. “I want that cross,” she uttered, trying to pick it up. But the weight of that cross was too heavy for her to bear.

Her eyes gazed onto another cross. This one was superb, intertwined with large, bright flowers around its base. However, when the woman tried to lift it, the rugged edges scratched her skin.

She took a deep breath and began to become disheartened. Just then, she turned and saw a simple, plain cross. As she moved closer to it, she lifted it easily. Next, with a sense of familiarity, she declared, “This is my old comfortable cross.” Contented that she found it, she soon realized that it was the lightest of all crosses, and with God’s help, she was able to carry it.

Remember, whatever your struggle today may be, you have a God who will help you to “carry your cross.” Turn to Him and receive His love, for no matter the condition. Be in peace knowing that God is working situations out for your good. God cares about what concerns you. And God will bring you peace, comfort and restoration. This is the time of miracles. Continue to spread joyfulness, helpfulness and goodness wherever you go. And this new time in your life is going to be beyond what you can ask, think or imagine.
