LOWER POTTSGROVE » Gatsby’s Restaurant at Sunnybrook reopened this week after being closed for five weeks because of a burst water pipe. The pipe burst Jan. 2, while staff was in the building to address the issue.

While the 1920s-themed restaurant was closed for repairs, management took the opportunity to revamp the menus, which are now focused on seafood and steak options. In addition, the restaurant has added a new Raw Bar as a main feature of Gatsby’s

“We wanted to bring a fun and unique new element to Gatsby’s for our guests to enjoy,” said Chuck Gulati, president, Sunnybrook LLC.

The restaurant opened for dinner on Tuesday, with more than 70 guests coming out for the evening according to Holly Becker, Gatsby’s marketing director. She added that the renovations went smoothly.

“While we were closed, we further trained our staff and created a menu that is unique, delicious and able to get to our guests’ tables quickly,” Becker said.

Additions have been made to Gatsby’s weeknight specials and happy hour, and live entertainment has been added to the weekly schedule, according to a press release. Reservations are not required and speed of service is a focus.

The damage from the burst water pipe was confined to the main entrance of Gatsby’s, in the main lobby of the restaurant near the hostess station, requiring the ceiling to be taken down so workers could access the impacted pipes. The incident happened while staff was in the building and able to respond quickly.

While the restaurant was closed, The Sunnybrook Ballroom and other event spaces continued to operate as normal, unaffected by the burst pipe, according to Becker.

Gatsby’s originally opened in March 2016 as part of a major renovation of the Sunnybrook Ballroom complex.

Sunnybrook LLC was formed in March 2015 when the Sunnybrook Foundation signed an agreement with Reading’s Stokesay Castle owner Jack Gulati and the Gulati family to run the Sunnybrook Ballroom.

Renovations began in August 2015, although an official groundbreaking was held in June of that year with the operators of the dining and entertainment facility.

The Sunnybrook complex reopened in March 2016. In addition to Gatsby’s, a new, 15,000-square foot wing was added to the complex. The first-floor of that complex includes new meeting and banquet space, a new kitchen and new ladies restroom. The new wing replaced a section that had to be torn down after the facility was closed for four years.

Gatsby’s is currently operating under its winter hours. For more information about Gatsby’s and Sunnybrook visit thesunnybrook.com Email business story ideas to business editor/ writer drovins@21stcenturymedia.com
