Board expects to fill vacancy
PERKIOMEN » Another Perkiomen Valley School Board member has resigned and the board will select a replacement at its meeting Monday night.
Citing increased work responsibilities, Richard Flynn tendered his resignation at the Jan. 25 school board meeting. The school board formally accepted it at the Feb. 5 meeting.
As of Friday, eight people had applied to replace him, but the names will not be released by the district until the agenda is published, after midnight Saturday, said Jessica Lester, manager of school and community engagement for the district.
Public interviews with the ap-
plicants will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Perkiomen Valley High School library.
The candidate chosen will be sworn in and seated that evening, and will serve out the remainder of Flynn’s term, until Nov. 30, 2019, according to the announcement on the district website.
It is the board’s second resignation in the last three months.
On Nov. 13, just days after the general election in which several incumbents were ousted, Ann Mantey, who was not up for reelection, submitted her resignation.
One of the incumbents ousted, Richard Bouher, made headlines when he applied for the seat, after saying he would not apply.
After a raucous meeting, the board ultimately selected Sarah Evans-Brockett to replace Mantey, but only after Bouher withdrew his application in the face of protests.
After that experience, Bouher told Digital First Media he would “never” seek public office again.
At Monday’s board meeting, when members discussed whether certain specifications would be required from applicants, and what questions to ask, board member Beth Roberts said, “I trust the process.”
