NP grad Reimel takes fifth

At NCAA D-II Championsh­ips

Kutztown University junior Jeff Reimel (Lansdale/North Penn) claimed fifth place at 184 pounds at the NCAA Division II National Championsh­ips with an 11-3 major decision over Bradley Metz of Finlay Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Reimel began nationals Friday with two victories to reach the semifinals and earn All-American honor. In the fist round, Reimel earned a 15-0 technical fall over Lake Erie’s Tyler Hughes in 3:54 then in quarterfin­als bested Augustana’s Aero Amo by 14-4 major decision.

After two losses to start Saturday, Reimel bounced back to defeat Metz in the fifth-place match to cap his season at 17-10 and help the Golden Bears finish 17th in the team standings with 13.5 points.

• Laura Trisch (Doylestown/ Archbishop Wood) collected three points, 11 rebounds and an assist while Irisa Ye (Lansdale/ North Penn) had four points, three rebounds and assists as the USciences women’s basketball team advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 for the first time in program history with a 61-54 victory over Bentley in the East Regional second round last Saturday at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachuse­tts.

Monday, the Devils’ season ended with a 71-61 loss to Stonehill. Ye had 11 points, three rebounds, three steals and an assist with Trisch collecting four points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Last Friday, Ye finished with nine points, five rebounds and an assist as the Devils defeated LIU Post 61-60 in the first round at Stonehill.
