District 1 champ Souderton (282) is trying to reach the 6A semifinals for the second straight year. The Indians haven’t lost a game in 2018 and have won 22 straight since falling to Spring-ford on Dec. 28. In the first two rounds of states, Big Red has earned a pair of double-digits victories, topping District 3 No. 7 Manheim Township 58-34 in the first round last Friday then bested District 11 No. 3 Easton 55-41 in the second round Tuesday. Junior Megan Bealer has led Souderton in scoring both games, going for 18 against Manheim and 22 in the Easton win.

Neshaminy (20-8) reached the District 1 quarterfin­als but lost its next three to finish as the eighth seed. But the Redskins avoided heading into the offseason with four Ls in a row by topping District 2 champ Hazleton 41-28 in the state opener. Neshaminy reached the quarters by bouncing SOL American champ Plymouth Whitemarsh 43-27 Tuesday.

Upper Dublin vs. Abington

Upper Dublin (24-5) lost in the District 1 second round to Council Rock North but coming into Friday’s matchup with the SOL National champs having won their last five thanks to the Cardinals’ tradition smothering defense. UD has allowed just one team this postseason — Perkiomen Valley in the district ninth-place game — to score more than 40 points. The Cards outlasted Philadelph­ia Catholic League champ Cardinal O’Hara in double overtime 42-35 in the state first round then knocked out Garnet Valley 39-29. Dayna Balasa hit four 3-pointers in scoring a game-high 14 points in Upper Dublin’s second-round victory over GV.

Abington (22-7) is back in the PIAA quarter for the first time since 2015. The Galloping Ghosts have won four straight since falling to Garnet Valley in the district quarters. Last Friday in the state first round, Abington’s Kassondra Brown was dominated in scoring 25 points in a 5944 win over District 3 No. 3 Wilson-West Lawn. Brown went for 19 Tuesday in the 63-55 second-round win over District 11 champ Freedom with Sam Brusha and Cam Lexow adding 16 and 11 points, respective­ly.

Faith Christian vs. Plumstead Christian

Faith (27-2) is aiming to reach its second straight state semifinals and to do so the District 1 champ Lions will need to defeated their BAL rival for the third time this year. FCA rolled past Plumstead Christian (19-10) 74-52 at home Jan. 30 then earned a 75-44 win on the Panthers’ home court Feb. 5.

Both teams advanced to the quarters with convincing secondroun­d wins Tuesday at Martz Hall in Pottsville. Plumstead, the thirdplace finisher in District 1, opened the night with a 67-50 victory over District 4 No. 3 Sullivan County. Faith Christian, meanwhile, cruised by District 4 No. 2 Millville 66-43 with the Lions’ Landon Coyle hitting 5 3s in scoring a game-high 18 points. TIME/PLACE » 2 p.m. Bensalem High School

Both CB West and Roman rallied for win in a pair of classic secondroun­d contests Wednesday. Trailing defending 6A state champ Reading 42-33 with 2:11 left in the fourth, CB West scored nine straight to force overtime then dominated the extra period to beat the Red Knights 60-47 at Liberty High School. Jake Reichwein and Collin MacAdams each scored 18 points for the Bucks (22-7), who the SOL Continenta­l Conference champ and took fourth in District 1.

Roman (21-6) trailed District 1 No. 2 Plymouth Whitemarsh by 15 in the first quarter and was down 11 at the half, but a huge second half by Allen Betrand led the Cahillites to a 75-71 win Wednesday at Bensalem. Betrand scored 20 points after the break as he finished the night with a game-high 26.

Gwynedd Mercy vs. Bonner & Prendergas­t

Gwynedd Mercy is a win away from reaching the 4A state semis in back-to-back seasons. The Monarchs earned a meeting with Bonner & Prendergas­t by defeating Greater Nanticoke in the state second round for a second straight year — taking this season’s contest 37-26 Wednesday at Hamburg High School. GMA, the District 1 champ, started PIAA play with a 77-21 win over Carver E&S.

Bonner & Prenderast, the District 12 champ, topped District 3 No. 5 Northern Lebanon 41-37 in the first round then edged defending 4A state champ Bethlehem Catholic 40-38 Wednesday at Spring-Ford.
