James L. Stone, 89, formerly of Norristown

James L. Stone, 89, a resident of Meadowood Senior Living in Worcester, PA, for the last 10 years, formerly of Norristown, PA, passed away March 15, 2018 at Abington Lansdale Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Mulligan) Stone, in 2012.

Born March 18, 1928 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late James Stone and Mary (Swartz) Stone Somers. He received his associate degree in criminal justice from Montgomery County Community College and was a U. S. Navy veteran.

Mr. Stone served as a Pennsylvania State Trooper for 25 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 37 where he was named Member of the Year in 1995.

Surviving are three daughters, Margaret Stone Higgins and her husband, Thomas G. Jr., of Voorhees, NJ, Catherine T. Stone-Brooks and her husband, Kevin, of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and Susan F. Stone and her husband, Valery Dugain, of Paris, France; and two sons, James J. Stone and his wife, Jaime, of Warrington, PA, and Robert J. Stone and his wife, Teresa, of Sarasota, FL. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Black, Alice “Susie” Hoffman and Jean Snyder.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 6-8PM on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the R. L. Williams, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., 3440 Skippack Pike at Cedars Road, Skippack, PA. Friends may also call for the viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9-11 AM and for the funeral service at 11 AM. Burial will be private on Wednesday at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst, PA.
