Into Upper Merion Athletic Hall of Fame

Upper Merion recently inducted two new members into its athletic Hall of Fame, Matt Whigham and Derrick Woolfolk.

Woolfolk is a graduate of the class of 1997. He was a very versatile athlete receiving 14 varsity letters during his career, two in football, four in basketball, four in indoor track, and four in track and field.

In basketball, he was a twotime All-Suburban One Leaguer, named to the first team as a senior and second team as a junior. Woolfolk was also All-Area his senior year and helped lead the team to the Suburban One League Freedom Division Championsh­ip earning him team MVP honors.

His senior year in track and field he excelled and capped off his career with capturing a PIAA Class AAA state thampionsh­ip and gold medal in the long jump with a jump of 23 ft and 1 and ½ inches, he also came in 9th in 110m high hurdles.

In track & field he earned 1st Team All-Suburban One League, All-Area, and All-State honors, and was an also a Class AAA District 1 Champion in the long jump.

He is still the record holder for the Wissahicko­n Trojan Track Classic in the long jump with a jump of 23 ft and 3 and ¾ inches and the Suburban One League Conference Meet in the triple jump with a jump of 44 feet and 2 inches.

Woolfolk attended Millersvil­le University as a scholarshi­p athlete. In college he lettered in basketball (4) and track & field (2). He participat­ed in the Pennsylvan­ia State Athletic Conference Track & Field Championsh­ips, where he placed 3rd in the long jump two years in a row with jumps of 22-9 in 1998 and 22-3 in 1999, he is still ranked in the Top-10 All-Time in the long jump for Millersvil­le University.
