Gun brandished during traffic dispute

BRIDGEPORT » On March 10 at 10:17 p.m. police were called to the Goodwill Fire Company, 304 Bush Street, for a report of an armed man brandishin­g a handgun. The victim told dispatcher­s the man pointed the gun at him during an altercatio­n in Greenfield Alley. Police located a truck that fit a descriptio­n provided by dispatcher­s in the fire company’s parking lot and located the suspect inside the lounge area. Police say the suspect, identified as 53-year-old Richard Hughes of Plymouth Meeting, initially denied any knowledge of the altercatio­n but later admitted to having a confrontat­ion with the victim, who had approached his vehicle in an attempt to get him to move so he could pass through the alley. Hughes also reportedly admitted to brandishin­g the gun during the exchange. The victim told police he was fearful because his children were in his vehicle. Hughes, who legally owned the gun and had a concealed carry permit, was charged with aggravated and simple assault and reckless endangerme­nt, according to court records.
