Books galore available at annual Spring Book Sale

- By Lisa A. Clancy

The Friends of the William Jeanes Memorial Library are holding their annual Spring Book Sale on Saturday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, April 22, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Friends’ book sales have contributed thousands of dollars to the William Jeanes Memorial Library each year, and this funding is crucial to the library’s operations. As I frequently say, if you attended a program at the library in the past year — from a free movie to the Constitution Discussion Group; from a lecture by a museum docent to a hands-on workshop — you benefited from the Friends’ generous support of the library. Yearround, their donations also support the writing workshops for children and teens, the music classes and live performances for all ages and the new laptops we use with those members of the community who need to Skype a job interview or take a proctored exam in our board room. The range of programs, services and items we’ve added to the collection thanks to the Friends is astonishing!

The Friends group has been in existence since 1950, but in just the four years since I’ve been here, they’ve donated over $100,000 to the library! The support of our Friends group is a significant part of the library’s overall funding, and we remain grateful for their support.

So please come browse the enormous selection of books available on the 21st and 22nd. Bring cash (only) and a bag, and leave with the knowledge that you contributed to the success of the William Jeanes Library! Lisa A. Clancy is the director at the William Jeanes Memorial Library and Nicholas and Athena Karabots Center for Learning, located at 4051 Joshua Road, Lafayette Hill.
