Richard M. Whee­lan Jr., 84, of Up­per Me­rion Town­ship, passed away Satur­day, April 14, 2018 at the Gar­den of Grace Hos­pice Unit at the Coatesville VA Med­i­cal Cen­ter af­ter a brief ill­ness.

Born in Tea­neck, NJ, Richard was the son of the late Richard M. Whee­lan Sr. and Anna S. (Nielsen) Whee­lan. He is sur­vived by his lov­ing wife Linda (Cur­ran) Whee­lan, with whom he shared 20 years of mar­riage. Richard was pre-de­ceased by his first wife, Regina C. (O’Neill) Whee­lan in Oc­to­ber, 1978, and in­fant daugh­ter, Au­drey Whee­lan in Oc­to­ber 1962.

Richard served his coun­try as a Mil­i­tary Po­lice Of­fi­cer for the US Army dur­ing the Korean Con­flict. He was sta­tioned in Ger­many and there is where his love of travel, dif­fer­ent cul­tures and all peo­ple was born. Af­ter his mil­i­tary ser­vice, he re­turned home to Philadel­phia and at­tended Drexel Univer­sity and then grad­u­ated from The Philadel­phia Tex­tile In­sti­tute with a B.S. in Tex­tile Mar­ket­ing & Man­age­ment. Richard ran sev­eral suc­cess­ful com­pa­nies in­clud­ing Whee­lan & Whee­lan, Inc., PLEATS, Sportco USA and The Hanold Com­pany. Af­ter re­tir­ing he had a sec­ond wave of suc­cess as a Real Estate Bro­ker for both Cen­tury 21 McAlis­ter and Long and Fos­ter. His civic in­volve­ment in­cluded mem­ber­ship in the Knights of Colum­bus, The Lions Club, The Ves­per Club, Phi Psi Fra­ter­nity and Toast­mas­ters.

In ad­di­tion to his wife, Linda, he is sur­vived by his chil­dren: Michael Whee­lan, hus­band of Donna; Robert Whee­lan, hus­band of Terri; Va­lerie Jensen, wife of Matthew Vo­j­tasek; Rae Whee­lan, fi­ancé of Mar­shall Wal­ters; Jen­nifer Whee­lan; Gre­gory Whee­lan, hus­band of Sonja; Stephanie Bass, part­ner of Kelly Nagy; and Sa­man­tha Bass. His grand­chil­dren, Emily (Jensen) Mur­ray, wife of Chris, Kelly Jensen, Jacque­line Jensen, Madi­son Henry, Grif­fin Henry, Faith Henry, An­drew Whee­lan and Amelia Whee­lan. And his large ex­tended fam­ily both lo­cally and across the pond in Scot­land.

A Fu­neral Mass will be held at Mother of Divine Prov­i­dence Church, 333 Al­len­dale Rd., King of Prus­sia, PA 19406 on Thurs­day, April 19, 2018 at 11:00 am, with greet­ing from 9 to 10:45 am. Burial will be pri­vate.
