3 at a cost of $300 (guaranteed rate through April 30 by enrolling at createa-cook.com.)

Scheduled Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the lessons will pack in a full day of sauteing, chopping and punching dough for “junior chefs of all skill levels,” noted Crann.

“That’s a good thing that the kids will be there all day. We’ll do 9 a.m. to noon … I’ll take half of the students and Jarrett will take the other half. He’ll teach culinary and I’ll teach baking and pastry and then we’ll break for lunch and then his kids will come to my side and my kids will go to his side. So they’ll each get culinary

and baking all in the same day because we’ll have use of the commercial stoves and ovens, which is what the students use during the school year. So this will give the kids the experience of coming into a real commercial kitchen.”

Crann readily admitted she’s primarily a baking enthusiast.

Her favorite sweet to pop into the oven?

“Cookies,” said Crann, who retired last year from a career in law enforcement and decided to pursue her lifelong love of cooking.

She and Young met when she was taking culinary classes at Delaware County Community College.

Crann and Young taught a kids’ cooking class last summer at another institution when they decided to partner for Create-a-Cook cooking school, with a focus on offering affordable cooking classes.

According to his createa-cook.com bio, Young is an instructor for the Accredited Culinary Arts Program at Delaware County Community College under the direction of former Executive Chef of Le Bec Fin, Peter Gilmore. Young has held titles from Executive Chef to Entremetier Chef, with his intense training having started with worldrenowned French Master Chef Dominique Filoni, at Savona Cucina Della Costa. Young said his hope is to lend the art of cooking a different flavor for people who never knew cooking could be so much fun.

While you may not know how to whip up a homemade English muffin, by the end of the summer, your Create-a-Cook grad will.

“Everything will be made from scratch. Nothing will be done with pre-made items like some schools do. English muffins really aren’t that hard to make,” said Crann, who promised that the kids will also know how to make the strawberry jam to smear across the muffins as well.

During Italian week — every week will have its own internationally-inspired theme, Crann explained — even the pizza and pasta dough will be scratch-made.

“It’s just so they know they don’t have to buy everything pre-packaged.”

Crann doesn’t mind if you call Create-a-Cook’s seven-week engagement at Central Montco Tech a “pop up cooking school,” but make no mistake, her venture with Young is a permanent entity.

“We’ll just get through the summer for now, but we definitely will be doing more things with our cooking school, maybe classes for adults on weekends, or different things like that.”
