Charles Wesley Price IV of Orange County, N.Y.

-

Charles Wesley Price IV, age 62, of Lake Katrine, NY passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Health Alliance Hospital, Kingston, NY.

Charles was born January 29, 1956 in Goshen, NY, the son of Charles Wesley Price III and Lillian Swartout Seybolt Price. He was a longtime resident of Orange County, NY.

Charles graduated from Goshen Central High School in 1974 and attended SUNY Cortland. He was a bright, talented and energetic young man when, in 1976, he was struck by the sudden onset of schizoaffective disorder, a lifelong condition that affects about one million Americans. At that time, the Orange County mental health system was not well-suited to provide family guidance, prompting his mother to become president of the Orange County Mental Health Association. In that position, she developed better resources for families and the mentally ill, including the Orange County Mobile Mental

Health Crisis Unit and Hudson House in Newburgh, NY.

As a young person, Charles enjoyed outdoor activities, such as skiing, camping, the Boy Scouts, and working at Tom’s greenhouse. He also played the trumpet. Throughout his life, he loved music and pets, a number of which he rescued. Most important to Charles were his family and many friends, and he talked to them on a regular basis. He was a caring person with a unique sense of humor who liked to share a joke. Charles had an uncanny ability to recall the birthdays of all his friends and relatives, and he would often be the first to call with a happy birthday wish. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. In August of 2010, he was able to attend a game at Yankee Stadium watching his favorite team beat the Red Sox, a memory that he treasured. In 2012, Charles became a resident of the Northeast Center for Rehabilitation and Brain Injury in Lake Katrine near Kingston, NY. In this supportive setting, he was able to maintain his close connection with the friends and family that he cherished and whose lives he enriched with his loving spirit.

Charles was beloved by his family and is survived by sister, Laura Price Kennedy of Goshen, NY; sister, Beth Anne Price and husband, I. Robert Silverman of Moorestown, NJ; niece, Brooke Price Aclin and husband, Justin F. Aclin of Goshen, NY; grandnieces, Roxanne and Naomi Aclin of Goshen, NY; aunt, AliceMarie Wester of Goshen, NY; and cousins, Donald S. Wester, Dirk E. Wester and Robert C. Fergusson.
