Woman arrested for murder of grandmother
AMBLER » The granddaughter of a woman found murdered in her home in the 100 block of South Chestnut Street early Monday morning was arrested for the crime.
Montgomery County Kevin R. Steele announced the arrest of Nicole Cadwalader, 30, of Ambler, the granddaughter of Sharon Burke, 68, who was found dead in the home they shared on Monday, June 4, 2018. Cadwalader was arrested Tuesday on firstdegree murder and related charges.
Borough police and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office reported that Ambler police responded to a call to check on the welfare of a resident at the home at 6:19 a.m. June 4. After entering through the unlocked front door, police found Burke on the bedroom f loor.
The investigation revealed that Cadwalader stabbed Burke in the neck using a kitchen knife as well as struck her multiple times with a pan and a baseball bat. She then left the residence and went to a friend’s house before walking to the Ambler Police station, according to a press release from the district attorney’s office.
An autopsy was performed at the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, which found that the cause of death was multiple stab and incise wounds, with a contributing cause of blunt impact to the head. The manner of death was homicide.
Cadwalader was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Patricia Zaffarano. Bail is not available fore first degree murder charges. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. June 14, 2018, before Judge Zaffarano.
