Flea Market at Historic Selma Mansion
The Norristown Preservation Society will once again host their annual Flea Market on Saturday, June 16 from 8 am to 2 pm at Historic Selma Mansion, 1301 West Airy Street, Norristown. Free admission for shoppers. Craft items, toys, games, books, food and drink, and attic treasures will be offered for sale. Vendor spaces are still available, though indoor spaces are limited and filling up, first come, first served. $20/ space, 8×4 feet bring your own table. Outdoor spaces are $15, 8 x 8 feet, bring your own table, chair, and canopy if needed. Spaces are selected by vendors upon arrival. Payments can be made through PayPal at SelmaMansionNorristown@aol.com or by check or money order mailed to Norristown Preservation Society, PO Box 2097, Norristown, PA 19403. If mailing, please include your contact info and type of craft, product you vend, or if it is yard sale or flea market items. All profits from the sale of vendor spaces go towards the restoration and maintenance of Selma Mansion. Fireflies: Nature’s Fireworks at Norristown Farm Park
Join a field biologist on Saturday, June 30 for an evening to discover the world of fireflies or lightning bugs, which are neither flies nor bugs. Learn about their amazing behavior and life cycle as well as how to distinguish different species of fireflies. The program begins just before dusk and ends just after dusk. Flashlights are optional. Meet in parking lot #3. This free program is appropriate for adults and children 6 and up and beings at 8:30 p.m. Preregistration is required. ‘Publick’ reading of the Declaration of Independence
On Sunday, July 1 a park ranger in period clothing will perform a reading of the Declaration of Independence at 2 p.m. Before the advent of radio and television important government announcements were read to the public in a common square. Come ready to participate in the cheering for Liberty! There will be toasts and musket fire! The reading takes about 90 minutes. Bring a blanket or a folding chair. Meet at the pavilions. In case of rain the event will be moved to the Salt Wing, adjacent to the park office. All ages are welcome to attend this free program. Preregistration is preferred.
