One of Montco’s most wanted apprehended at traffic stop
PLYMOUTH » One of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office most wanted criminal fugitives is behind bars after being apprehended for traffic and drug violations in Plymouth Township. Dione Maurice Andrews, 22, of Norristown was charged in August 2016 with rape, sexual assault, and related offenses according to court records. His arrest was announced Tuesday morning on the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Conshohocken District Court, a Plymouth Township police officer conducted a traffic stop at the corner of the 900 block of Fornance Street at 1:35 a.m. June 24 after noticing a grey sedan, driven by Andrews, in the middle of the intersection, obstructing traffic on Sandy Hill Road.
Andrews reportedly told the officer he was thinking about “blowing the light” and was stopped in the intersection because he wasn’t paying attention.
The officer ran Andrews’ driver’s license and found that it was suspended and he had an outstanding warrant out of the sheriff’s office. The officer also reportedly smelled marijuana in the vehicle and noticed remnants of a green leafy substance throughout the vehicle and on Andrews’ shirt.
During a vehicle search subject to arrest, police found nine small resealable plastic bags containing suspected marijuana inside a larger plastic bag in the car’s center console, the complaint says.
The affidavit of probable cause states that police also found a metal bottle containing nine knotted plastic bags of suspected marijuana and seized $370 cash in various denominations that Andrews was carrying.
Andrews was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post $10,000 bail.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Gregory Scott July 5.
