At the East Norriton Board of Supervisors regular meeting recently the tax assessment appeal for 2800 Potshop Lane Road was the hot topic of discussion. The property was assessed at an $80,000 decrease in assessment value. This appeal is an example of how re-evaluation appeal can take years in the system according to township manager Robert Hart.

Montgomery County and Norristown Area School District have approved the appeal and it awaits the Board of Supervisors approval.

Voting for the appeal were Vice Chairman Kevin McDevitt and supervisor Ashley DiPiero while Chairman Dennis DeSanto and Supervisor Joseph Gavanus were against. In the absence of supervisor Amanda Cappelletti, the appeal

failed and will be taken to executive session to be discussed again in greater detail in an upcoming July meeting.

A resolution was approved authorizing submission of a cost sharing request to PennDOT.

Public Works Director Doug Jones explained the resolution as authorization to a cost sharing agreement with PennDot for sanitary sewer relocation as part of PennDot’s Route 202 improvement process. The cost share would be split 75/25 with the township paying 25%. Jones said this would benefit East Norriton as a municipality as usually agreements are split 50/50.

The board also approved Carroll Engineering for design consulting services. The engineering company will give design services of the sewer relocation for about 50 locations that have to be relocated or adjusted because of the construction.

According to Hart, the Parks and Recreation department improvements are nearing completion, including getting WIFI in Stanbridge Street Park.

On July 11th a Billy Joel tribute band, River of Dreams will be playing in Stanbridge Street Park at 7 p.m. as well as Despicable Me 3 will be playing on July 18th at 7 p.m.

According to Chairman DeSanto, camp has started and “it has a great feel to it so kudos to the parks and rec department.”

On June 21st the band Wildflower played East Norriton’s first Concert in the Park at Stanbridge Street Park to a crowd of 500-600 people. In a true testament to summer, children and police officers were dancing and playing games of Frisbee. According to McDevitt, “For the first one, we couldn’t have asked for better.”

A “MeetUp” area is now available at the township building as a secure internet exchange location In a well lit camera monitored area in sight of the police department where people can buy or sell goods from online. According to the police department, it has received positive feedback.
