A Norristown man is on his way to state prison for committing a series of robberies in the borough.

Isaiah Jeremiah Brewer, 30, of the 400 block of Forest Avenue, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 2 ½ to five years in a state correctional facility after he pleaded guilty to multiple felony robbery charges in connection with incidents that occurred between December 2017 and January 2018 in Norristown.

Judge Richard P. Haaz imposed the sentence as part of a plea agreement. The judge ordered Brewer to stay away from the 7-Eleven on Sandy Street, one of the victims of the robberies.

With the charges, prosecutors alleged Brewer entered the 7-Eleven about 1 a.m. Dec. 8, 2017, and under the guise of purchasing a cigarillo attempted to rob a cashier.

“As (the cashier) opened the register the male reached over the counter and attempted to grab the money from the register,” Norristown Detective David Crawford alleged in the arrest affidavit. “(The cashier) stated she was able to fight the suspect off and keep him from grabbing any money and she was able to close the register door.”

Witnesses told police the suspect, later determined to be Brewer, ran to a parked car and fled from the area, police said. Police later obtained video surveillance footage from the store and it assisted police in eventually identifying Brewer as the culprit.

On Jan. 6, 2018, Norristown police were dispatched to the 400 block of Forrest Avenue about 7:30 p.m. for a report of a robbery of a pizza delivery person. A delivery driver for a West Norriton pizza shop told detectives she was making

a delivery at an apartment complex when a man in a vestibule approached her and produced a box cutter type knife and demanded money, according to the criminal complaint filed by Norristown Detective Charles Leeds.

When the victim told the man she didn’t have any money the man reached into her pockets and found no money but took her car keys, detectives alleged. The man then ran from the area, dropping the victim’s car keys as he fled.

Detectives alleged Brewer, on Jan. 7, brandished a BB gun when he robbed a neighborhood market in the 400 block of Arch Street. A clerk told detectives Brewer pointed a gun at him and stated “Give me your money,” according to the criminal complaint. Brewer fled from the market with about $150, detectives said.

Detectives developed Brewer as a suspect in the January 2018 robberies and when they searched his apartment they found clothing that matched the description of those worn by the robber and a box cutter type knife and a black pellet gun, according to court papers.

When detectives questioned Brewer about the Jan. 6 and Jan. 7 robberies he confessed, according to the criminal complaint.
