Students create mural project
There’s been a lot of tile-making going on this past school year at Spring City Elementary School.
Recently, students and staff have been rolling clay tiles and painting them with glaze with the hope of expressing a sense of garden beauty in their courtyard.
The students have been working with professional artist Jessica Gorlin Liddell. She knows first-hand the therapeutic quality and joy of collaborative artistic endeavors having worked on mosaic projects in schools throughout Spring Ford School District and many other schools in the Tri State Area.
The creative project also gives the students a chance to share the process with their peers. Art
teacher Traci Evans and Home and School Association orchestrated the project’s success. Art’s Alive! Robyn Burckhardt was the coordinator for the project with the support of Home and School as well as Spring-Ford Area School District.
The mosaic will hang on the exterior of the building in their courtyard as a sparkling example of what can be accomplished by students unified by a common artistic goal. The goal is for them to carry the spirit of collaboration with them.
The Spring City Elementary Home and School Association will celebrate the start of the school year with a Family Appreciation Night on the playground and in the Courtyard on Friday, Sept. 7.
At this event, while the kids get a chance to play with their friends, we celebrate the work of all who volunteered throughout the year. “The Buddy Bench,” a project sponsored by HSA, was installed back in Fall 2017 and will also be showcased.
