Weekend shooting under investigat­ion

LOWER PROVIDENCE » Police are investigat­ing a shooting that occurred Sunday night in the 100 block of Hollywood Avenue in the Trooper section of the township.

According to a release issued by the Lower Providence Police Department, officers responded to the scene at 10:50 p.m. Sept. 2, and were advised that one person had been shot inside of a home.

Upon arrival officers observed several people outside of the home and heard yelling from inside. Officers controlled the chaotic scene and detained five individual­s before entering the home and locating the shooting victim.

Officers provided first aid to the victim, a 30-yearold man from Bridgeport who had been shot once. Care was turned over to medics from the Lower Providence Community Ambulance. The victim was then flown to Penn Presbyteri­an Medical Center in Philadelph­ia where he underwent emergency surgery. He remains in the hospital in stable condition.

The events that led to the shooting are actively being investigat­ed by the Lower Providence Township Police Department detective unit. Once completed, the case will be reviewed by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office for any charging recommenda­tions.

No charges were announced in the release.

“With certainty this is an isolated event in a normally peaceful neighborho­od in our township. Our officers identified and located all persons involved in the incident immediatel­y and they were interviewe­d by detectives that evening,” Lower Providence Police Chief Stan Turtle said.

Lower Providence police were assisted by West Norriton and East Norriton Township police, Lower Providence Community Ambulance, the Lower Providence Fire Department and PennStar-1.
