UNIVERSITY CITY » Two touchdowns separated by two minutes, 20 seconds of game time helped West Catholic (4-1, 2-0 Philadelphia Catholic League) beat Lansdale Catholic (1-3, 0-2 PCL), 28-7, at Drexel University’s Maguire Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Burrs tied the game with 17 seconds left in the first half off a 15-yard touchdown pass from junior Zaire HartHawkins to junior wideout Justino Griggs. Senior wide receiver Seth Degree caught a 28-yard pass down the left sideline to set West Catholic up in the red zone.

West Catholic took the lead for good in the third quarter. The Burrs received the second half kickoff and started with good field position after a 52yard kickoff return by Jacir Savoy. The senior running back caught a 15-yard pass and had a 14-yard run before the go-ahead touchdown on a quarterback sneak by HartHawkins.

“What we talked about was trying to stay away from giving up big plays, and they’re a big-play offense,” Crusaders’ coach Tom Kirk said. “We know that, and just a couple of those big plays came back to bite us. The second-half WEST CATHOLIC 28, LC 7 Up next: LC hosts Bonner & Prendergast Saturday night. kickoff return gave them momentum. I think they started at their own 35, which, we can’t do that.”

“The first half, I really wasn’t getting the ball like that, so in the second half they were like, ‘All right, I’m going to start giving you the ball,’” Savoy said.

Savoy and Zahir Booker, who caught a fourth-quarter touchdown pass, combined for more than 100 yards rushing. Savoy accumulated most of his total in the second half.
