Wanted man downs beer before arrest in Lower Providence

LOWER PROVIDENCE >> A man with an active warrant decided to have one last drink before heading to jail when he was apprehende­d just after 10 a.m. Sept. 23 in the 100 block of Evansburg Road. According to the police report, the scofflaw guzzled a 23-ounce beer before being taken into custody without incident.

Car flipped in morning crash

At 6:22 a.m. Sept. 23 police responded to a single-vehicle crash near the intersecti­on of Germantown and Ridge pikes. A maroon Chevrolet Monte Carlo had overturned and the driver was out of the vehicle when officers arrived. The male motorist reportedly smelled of alcohol and was transporte­d to a local hospital for testing. Police determined he did not have a valid drivers’ license. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Cryptocurr­ency scam investigat­ed

On Sept. 19 around 2 p.m. a resident met with police to report he’d been the victim of an investment scam. He said he’d recently purchased $3,500 worth of apparently fraudulent Bitcoin through an online broker.

Alarm thwarts burglars caught on tape WEST NORRITON

At 3:14 a.m. Sept. 25, a resident called police to report suspicious activity in the 100 block of Clemens Circle. The caller said he heard two people running outside of his house. The resident checked footage from his security camera on his cell phone and told police he captured images of two men, one of whom tried to open a locked car door. The men walked past his house, then sprinted back, entered a jeep and drove away. While police were on the phone with the caller, dispatcher­s reported the sounding of a security alarm on the same block. Someone tried to break into a residence across the street through a rear dining room window. The scared-off burglar left a sheathed knife behind. Police took the knife and the video into evidence.

Police investigat­e gas theft

On Sept. 24 at 1:43 p.m. police received a report that someone had stolen gas from a tank at Riverside Cemetery, 200 S. Montgomery Ave. A maintenanc­e employee told police he noticed the cap was off of one of the gasoline tanks on the property and approximat­ely $500 worth of gas was removed. The cap did not have a lock on it and a nearby security camera was inoperable at the time of the theft.

Smoothie criminal

Detectives are investigat­ing the theft of four blenders worth more than $600 combined from Walmart, 650 Trooper Road, Sept. 23. Loss prevention personnel provided police with security camera footage of a Gray Dodge Ram pulling up to the outdoor/garden center around 12:30 p.m. A suspect left the vehicle, went into the store and placed two Nutri-bullet and two KitchenAid blenders into a tote in his cart, then left the store without paying. A store clerk tried to stop the suspect, but he ignored her and got back into the waiting vehicle. A customer got the truck’s license plate number and provided it to police. An investigat­ion is ongoing.
