PLYMOUTH >> The National Comprehensive Cancer Network recently shifted its mission of improving the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of care for all cancer patients from Fort Washington to 3025 Chemical Road, Plymouth Meeting.

“The primary reason for the move was to accommodate expanding staff (corresponding to expanding offerings), and have an in-house location for meetings. However, the accessibility of major highways was definitely taken into consideration during the search, and helped tip the scales,” noted Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Gary Weyhmuller.

“NCCN does not offer diagnosis or treatment directly to patients. We are an alliance of 27 leading academic cancer centers across the country. Locally, that includes Fox Chase Cancer Center, and more widely, also Memorial Sloan Kettering, Mayo Clinic, MD Anderson, Lurie, City of Hope, and many more. NCCN creates NCCN Guidelines, which provide sequential workup and treatment recommendations for most types of cancer, plus care for some related events, prevention, screening, and specific populations,” Weyhmuller explained. “NCCN also creates NCCN Guidelines for Patients, which translate the clinical content into easy-to-understand guidebooks to help empower people with cancer and their loved ones to understand their treatment options and make better-informed decisions.”

A press release noted that, through the leadership and expertise of clinical professionals at NCCN Member Institutions, NCCN develops resources that present valuable information to the numerous stakeholders in the health care delivery system. As the arbiter of high-quality cancer care, NCCN promotes the importance of continuous quality improvement and recognizes the significance of creating clinical practice guidelines appropriate for use by patients, clinicians, and other health care decision-makers.

Founded in 1995 by 13 leading U.S. cancer centers, NCCN was originally housed on the campus of Fox Chase Cancer Center, with headquarters in Jenkin
