Robert Chalphin, 95, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2018. Born in Philadelph­ia on December 31, 1922, he was the son of the late Julia and Jacob Chalphin. Robert proudly served in the United States Army in World War II. After the war ended, he applied for a banking job, but ended up in the title insurance business. He was one of the first agents in the business and had a long and wellrespec­ted career in it. In 1960, he started Robert Chalphin Associates, Inc., a title insurance and bonding firm in Norristown, Pennsylvan­ia; for years he was Montgomery County’s sole source for bail bonds. He retired to Long Boat Key, Florida in 1990.

Although he enjoyed the game, he was a thoroughly mediocre golfer who played often until the age of 93. He was involved with various charities, including the Montgomery County March of Dimes, the Jewish Federation of Sarasota Florida and the Jewish Housing Council of Sarasota. He also drove and delivered for Meals on Wheels into his early 90’s.

Robert fathered three sons, Gerald, Mark and Ira Chalphin, with his first wife, the late Laura Chalphin. After their divorce, he married the late Pat Spiegel of Wilmington, Delaware and became the devoted step-father of her daughters, Barbara Friedman, Nancy Rosenstock and Caren Abramson. In addition to his sons and step-daughters, he is survived by ten grandchild­ren and two greatgrand­sons. He also had long term, loving relationsh­ips with the late Doris Loevner and Nancy Parker, both of Longboat Key, Florida.

Calling hours will be held at 9:30 am on Monday October 22 at BoydHorrox-Givnish, 200 W Germantown Pike in Norristown, followed by a service at 10:00 am. Interment will be held privately.

The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Robert’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
