Mary Gambone of West Norriton

Mary “Sissy” (Zummo) Gambone, 91, of West Norriton, died on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at Abington Lansdale Hospital, Lansdale, PA.

Born October 21, 1927 in Norristown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Catherine (Saxon) and Thomas Zummo, and wife of the late Stanley C. Gambone Jr., who died in 2009.

Mrs. Gambone, along with her late husband, owned and operated Mary & Stan’s Restaurant located at Marshall & Walnut sts. from 1955-1959; then in the Genuardi Shopping Center, Sandy St. from 195971. They also ran a ceramics studio out of their home from 1961-71; and were involved at the Perkiomenville Sales from 1973-88.

She was active with the Girl Scouts for over 25 years as a leader in the Norristown and Plymouth area, including both Holy Saviour and Epiphany churches. She was a collector of bells and belonged to the Nat’l Bell Assoc. They also resided in the Woxall area from 1971-88 before moving back to W. Norriton.

Survivors include son, Stanley C. “Skip” Gambone III, daughter, Mary (Vincent) Jacianis; 4 grandchildren: Lillian (Thomas) O’Donnell, Lori Lankin, Carmen (Brittney) Gambone and Matthew Gambone; 5 great grandchildren: Ryan O’Donnell, Emma Lankin, Connor O’Donnell, John Carmen & Gianni Grace Gambone; and sister June Schierer.

In addition to her spouse and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Stanley C. ‘Skipper’ Gambone, IV; and siblings: Anthony Zummo, Thomas Zummo, Joseph Zummo, Donald Zummo, Catherine Stock, and Michele Kearney.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, October 24th, from 6-8 pm and Thursday, October 25th from 8:309:15 am at the Caramenico FH Inc., Main & Walnut sts., Norristown, PA, with Funeral Mass to follow at 9:30 am from Holy Saviour Church, 407 E Main St., Norristown, PA. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, 2400 DeKalb Pike, East Norriton, PA 19401.
