HARRISBURG >> Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett returned to the state Capitol on Wednesday for a ceremony to unveil his official portrait.

Corbett, 69, recounted some of the highlights of his four years in office, ending in 2015, including a multibilliondollar transportation bill and an effort to attract a massive natural gas processing plant to western Pennsylvania.

“The Irish in me says that I’m at my own wake,” the former governor joked, telling the former aides, officials and supporters that he was proud of what they accomplished together. “Hopefully there’s much more ahead for all of us.”

Corbett, a Republican, is also a former state attorney general and was U.S. attorney in Pittsburgh.

These days he does consulting, works in a law firm and is currently teaching a criminal prosecution class to 15 students at Duquesne Law School.

Former first lady Susan Corbett recalled being delighted with the results when she first saw the oil-on-canvas painting by Catherine Prescott, a Mechanicsburg artist who taught at Messiah College.

“His accomplishments are your accomplishments, and his legacy is your legacy, too,” she told the attendees.

The portrait was paid for by Corbett’s inaugural committee. wasn’t a hard sell,” according to Mason.

Longtime Carver supporter State Rep. Matt Bradford was one of the first to jump on board as the event sponsor. Other sponsors include Norristown Municipal Council, the Norristown Area School District, the Norristown Police Foundation, CIG Asia, Ltd., Team All Business LLC, The Academy, Creative Childcare, and a host of other local businesses, barber shops, officials and community leaders who provided monetary and in-kind donations.

Norristown Police Chief Mark Talbot Sr. will throw out the first pitch when the free, 7-inning coed game kicks off at 11 a.m.

The teams — decked out in Norristown blue and white — will be comprised of a mixture of civilians and officers — all of whom volunteered to take part.

“We commend the police and we also commend the community for seeing the vision here, and hopefully it will continue to grow,” Carroll said.

“We hope people come out to have a good time, have some conversation, shake a hand, connect with each other, and recognize that we all have the same goal: to build safety in the community,” said Mason.
