Five Vikings make college decisions

-

It was a busy week at Upper Merion Area High School with five studentathletes signing their National Letters of Intent.

The girls lacrosse team has two players inked to continue their careers at the next level — Molly Weygand and Riley O’Malley.

Weygand will be continuing her education and playing career at Drexel University.

“I chose Drexel because it has everything I want in a school,” she said. “It has strong academics and competitive athletics. It is also located in the city of Philadelphia where I always wanted to go to school.”

Weygand will be playing her fourth varsity season in the spring. She earned First Team All-Pioneer Athletic Conference Frontier Division honors in 2017 and 2018 and was the team’s coMVP in 2018.

O’Malley will be playing lacrosse at Virginia Commonwealth University.

“I loved the location and the coaching staff was amazing throughout the whole recruiting process,” she said. “They also have a strong business program and good connections in Richmond for their business students.”

O’Malley is entering her fourth varsity season this spring. She was First Team All-PAC Frontier in her sophomore and junior seasons.

Two Upper Merion seniors will be attending University of the Sciences next fall — Tori Wright and Lauren Del Giudice.

Wright played four years varsity for the Vikings girls volleyball team. As a freshman, she was Second Team All-League and Second Team All-District. Sophomore year she was First Team All-PAC. She became a team captain as a junior and earned First Team AllPAC and First Team AllDistrict honors. She also reached 1,000 kills and was Pennsylvania’s top kill holder. She was a captain again this fall as a senior, earning First Team All-PAC, First Team All-District and All-State team honors. She set the school kill record and was top kill holder in the state.

“University of the Sciences has my major and is in the city of Philadelphia,” she said. “I love to spend time in Philly and I love the campus. They have an amazing volleyball program that I am super excited to be a part of.”

Del Giudice will be playing her fourth season as a varsity softball player this spring. She has earned Second Team All-League honors and was Honorable Mention All-Conference. As a sophomore and a junior she was selected to play in the Carpenter Cup.

“USciences is a perfect fit for me as it has a great academic program and a welcoming atmosphere,” she said. “Being only a half hour from home and playing the sport I love, I feel the most potential at this University.”

Trevor Looby will be representing the Upper Merion boys soccer program at the collegiate level. He will be attending West Chester University.

“West Chester is both close to home and one of the best Division II schools in regards to their soccer program,” he said. “They provide a safe campus environment and past teammates have said nothing but good things.”

Looby was a four-year starter for the Vikings varsity team. He led the team in assists as a freshman and earned Second Team All-PAC honors as a sophomore. He led the team to playoffs as a junior captain and earned First Team AllPAC honors and was selected as a Continental All Star. As a senior, Looby returned as a captain. He was First Team All-PAC, an AllPA and Southeastern PA team selection and was a Continental All Star.
