D.A., police seek public’s help to solve gunshot slaying of Pottstown woman
NORRISTOWN >> A Pottstown woman found dead in her home earlier this week was fatally shot during an apparent home invasion, according to Montgomery County prosecutors and borough police.
District Attorney Kevin R. Steele revealed on Wednesday that Sylvia Williams, 38, died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head during the Nov. 18 incident inside her residence in the 300 block of North Washington Street.
“Investigation has revealed two masked suspects entered the residence during a home invasion and fired, striking Williams,” Steele said. “The home contained a video surveillance system which captured the incident.”
Steele and Pottstown Police Chief Michael J. Markovich released video surveillance photographs obtained during the investigation and requested assistance from the public in identifying “the persons responsible for the homicide.”

Tips also may be submitted through the use of the free mobile app called STOPit that is available to download for free on iOS and Android platforms.
To participate, residents must download the free STOPit app and then input the access code “MONTCOPA” in order to acquire the correct version of STOPit. Once the app is on the cellphone residents are ready to anonymously share tips about criminal activity.
The mobile app is simple to use on any cellphone and allows users to text information, a photo or video and transmit it directly to the county’s 911 Emergency Communications Center. While the 911 dispatchers will be able to communicate directly with the tipsters in real time if additional information is required, officials stressed the tipster’s phone number remains anonymous.
