Water main replacement project begins
ROYERSFORD >> A project to replace a a 100-year-old iron water main that serves 40 customers will result in street restrictions through November when final paving is scheduled.
The project is being undertaken by Pennsylvania American Water Co. will install nearly 2,600 feet of new eight-inch ductile iron water main, along with new copper service lines and fittings for 40 customers, according to a release issued by the company.
The project, which began on July 18, will also replace utility-owned service lines and fire hydrants along the route of the project.
“Construction activity will occur on Arch Street between South 3rd Avenue and South 4th Avenue; North 3rd Avenue between Uni-Tech and Chestnut Street; North 3rd Avenue between Chestnut and Summer streets; and Summer Street between North 3rd Avenue and the cul-de-sac,” according to the release.
Crews will work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction, and motorists are urged to give themselves extra time and exercise caution when traveling through the work zone.
During construction, customers might experience temporary water service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure, according to the release.
The cost of the project is approximately $500,000. Final paving restoration is scheduled to be completed in November 2019, weather permitting.
