Water main replacemen­t project begins

ROYERSFORD >> A project to replace a a 100-year-old iron water main that serves 40 customers will result in street restrictio­ns through November when final paving is scheduled.

The project is being undertaken by Pennsylvan­ia American Water Co. will install nearly 2,600 feet of new eight-inch ductile iron water main, along with new copper service lines and fittings for 40 customers, according to a release issued by the company.

The project, which began on July 18, will also replace utility-owned service lines and fire hydrants along the route of the project.

“Constructi­on activity will occur on Arch Street between South 3rd Avenue and South 4th Avenue; North 3rd Avenue between Uni-Tech and Chestnut Street; North 3rd Avenue between Chestnut and Summer streets; and Summer Street between North 3rd Avenue and the cul-de-sac,” according to the release.

Crews will work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Traffic restrictio­ns will be in place during constructi­on, and motorists are urged to give themselves extra time and exercise caution when traveling through the work zone.

During constructi­on, customers might experience temporary water service interrupti­ons, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure, according to the release.

The cost of the project is approximat­ely $500,000. Final paving restoratio­n is scheduled to be completed in November 2019, weather permitting.
