Race for Peace Committee organizer meets with local lawmaker official
NORRISTOWN >> Race for Peace Committee is an effort to acquaint both suburban and city police officers with the organizations mission to improve police relations among the region’s communities.
“The Race for Peace Committee was formed to enrich the lives of residents in all of
Greater Philadelphia’s communities — from the city to the suburbs — by developing relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve through programs, resources and activities, said Race for Peace Committee Community Activist/Spokesmen Alim Howell.
Recently, Howell met with Matt Bieber, the Director of Communications for Congresswomen Madeleine Dean (D, 4 th Dist.).
“I’m a community activist,” said Howell. “I looked up the definition. It’s someone who solves problems in communities. It’s someone who shows leadership.”
The main focus of the meeting was to bridge the communication gap between police departments and communities where the police are seen through a suspicious eye.
“To the minorities, we try to relate that the police are not the bad guys,” said Howell. “They are just doing their jobs.”
The Race for Peace Committee works with police departments in the Greater Philadelphia Region to develop local programs, activities and resources that support peace and engagement with the local community. With a vision to educate, circumvent and eradicate hate and racism, violence and discrimination, the RFPC encourages good citizenship and a collective voice against hate locally and across the globe.
