PLYMOUTH >> Three people were killed and another is listed in critical condition as a result of a two-vehicle crash at the five-point intersection at Ridge Pike, Chemical Road, North Lane and Colwell Lane that occurred shortly before midnight on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, Plymouth Chief of Police John Myrsiades confirmed at a Friday morning press conference.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims and their families of this horrific crash,” Myrsiades said to begin the press conference at the township building Friday morning. “Our officers, fire fighters and medics worked throughout the night to investigate this

tragic event and care for the victims as best we could.

“The Plymouth Township Police Department responded to a twovehicle crash,” Myrsiades said. “The crash resulted in the deaths of three people in the involved vehicles.”

Myrsiades said that the striking vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed west on Ridge Pike coming from Whitemarsh and heading in the direction of Norristown. The Honda Pilot, Myrsiades said, did not follow the curve in the road, crossed over the median into the east-bound lane of Ridge Pike and crashed head-on into Dodge Grand Caravan traveling eastbound on Ridge. The driver of the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda also sustained massive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the two passengers in the Honda was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second passenger in the Honda was transported to Temple University Hospital and is listed in critical condition. Myrsiades said the identities of the victims are being withheld until the families have been notified.

Myrsiades said there was a patrol officer in the vicinity who witnessed the crash.

“Our officer was stationed right there and had a view of the impact,” Myrsiades said. “The van ended up in the middle of the intersection, and the vehicle that was struck was more toward to the intersection with Colwell Lane.

The crash, between an SUV and minivan, shut down Ridge Pike as police investigated and the scene was cleared.

Assisting Plymouth police at the scene were Whitemarsh and Conshohocken Police Departments, Plymouth and Narberth ambulance companies, Plymouth and Harmonville fire companies and fire police from Norristown, Plymouth, Harmonville, Barren Hill, Centre Square and Washington fire companies.
