The Revolution comes alive at county library
NORRISTOWN >> To coincide with the International Conference on the American Revolution being held in Philadelphia, this October the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library has three exciting opportunities for the public to learn more about the American Revolution.
The community is invited to participate in a discussion about the American Revolution with renowned American military historian and Temple University Professor Gregory J. W. Urwin, PhD. The presentation will focus on the lives of soldiers “From the Parade Ground to the Battlefield.” The Museum of the American Revolution tapped his research for its “Finding Freedom” ex
hibit. Dr. Urwin has also appeared in several historical documentaries such as The Last Days of World War II, The Color Bearers, and Civil War Journal. This event is on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 6 PM at the library.
Historical Lecturer, Tour Guide, and Reenactor, Michael Jesberger, will present an educational program about the common soldiers who fought in the American Revolution and other events that took place in Norristown and Montgomery County at that time. He will bring Revolution-period items, uniforms, maps and share eyewitness accounts of the events that took place in the Philadelphia region. This program is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22, at 6 PM at the library.
Every October 19th, the United States celebrates Yorktown Day which commemorates the last major military engagement of the American Revolution. The Siege of Yorktown was a decisive victory over the British Army by General George Washington. To honor this major historical event, Reenactor Sam Davis will deliver a rendering performance as General Washington about the “Dark Days of the American Revolution” on Wednesday, October 30that 6 PM at the library.
