J.P. Mascaro wins waste collection, recycling contracts
AUDUBON >> In the past month, J.P. Mascaro & Sons has been awarded a number of municipal waste collection and recycling contracts, including one worth more than $10 million.
The Audubon-based J.P. Mascaro & Sons was recently awarded an estimated $2.5 million in competitively bid municipal waste collection and recycling contracts to serve Royersford, Bridgeport and Mount Penn.
Two of the municipalities — Royersford and Bridgeport — are located in Montgomery County and will be serviced out of Mascaro’s Great Valley Division, while Mount Penn Borough, in Berks County, will be serviced by Mascaro’s Berks Division.
Pat Mascaro, president of J.P. Mascaro & Sons said the company is successful in being awarded the contracts because it owns its own transfer stations, landfills and recycling facilities, as well as its experience, equipment and employees.
“This winning combination enables our company to be successful on a large number of our bids and to provide municipalities and other public sector customers with the highest quality service at a reasonable cost,” he said in a press release.
Earlier this month, the company announced it had been awarded recycling contracts for the municipalities of Exeter, Swarthmore, Tinicum, Bern, Lansdowne and Perkasie. The recyclables from the Berks, Delaware and Bucks County municipalities will be delivered to TotalRecycle Inc., Mascaro’s 85,000-square-foot processing facility in Exeter Township, Berks County for processing and marketing to end-users.
According to the company, Mascaro continues to increase its commitment to recycling and growing its market share, while other companies view the cur
rently depressed recycling markets more cautiously.
“We are excited about adding these new communities to our growing list of recycling customers and we are committed to remaining at the forefront of waste recycling and reuse,” Joseph P. Mascaro, director of sustainability for J.P. Mascaro, said in the release.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2020,
Mascaro will begin serving Whitemarsh Township in Montgomery County with two comprehensive five year waste service contracts valued at more than $10 million. It is one of the largest municipal contracts in the region, according to Pat Mascaro.
The first contract is for the collection, transportation and disposal of township residential waste, while the second is for the curbside collection, transportation and processing of single stream household recyclables.
“We are particularly pleased that the township has decided to move away from incineration of its waste and instead has chosen to have its residential waste disposed of at our modern, company-affiliated Pioneer Crossing Landfill in nearby Berks County,” Mascaro added. Whitemarsh had previously sent its waste to the Covanta Incinerator in Plymouth Township.
Under the awarded contracts, township residents will receive once a week trash and recycling services, with the recyclables collected in 64 gallon contractor-provided totes, and taken to Mascaro’s TotalRecycle facility in Exeter Township, Berks County for processing and marketing. Under the new contract, yard waste will also be collected weekly between April and December.

both cards
There are times to use an FSA card, and other situations when it makes sense to use your personal debit card. The most important thing is to make sure you spend all the money in your FSA account for the year.
Flexible spending accounts have a “use it or lose it” policy, per federal guidelines. This means the money disappears if it isn’t spent in the plan year, though some employers offer a grace period that extends into the following
March. Other employers may also let you carry over some of your balance into the next year.
If you have a flexible spending account, it’s in your best interest to take advantage of it by spending the funds before you lose them.
