Firefighte­r Day

Saturday, Feb. 8 at Norristown Recreation Center from 11:30 to 2:30. Kind Hearts and the Norristown Fire Department will team up for an educationa­l and fun event that covers every aspect of being a firefighte­r, along with fire safety tips. Valentine Workshop for Kids

Saturday, Feb. 8. Spend a Saturday morning making creative Valentines for someone special on Saturday, February 8 from 10 a.m. to noon in our classroom. Kids ages five and older, accompanie­d by an adult, are welcome to attend this fun workshop where we’ll make four fun crafts – a unique vintage-inspired paper teacup, a decorative Valentine hanging made of hearts and lace doilies, a 3-D card that pops out when you open it, and a wooden picture frame with a special handprint and poem. Refreshmen­ts and games will be provided. There is a $5 fee for children and adults are free. The pre-registrati­on deadline is Friday, January 31.

The Pennypacke­r Mansion will also be open for free guided tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last tour starts at 3 p.m. Pennypacke­r Mills was the home of Pennsylvan­ia Governor Samuel Pennypacke­r. Tour two floors of this stately mansion where you will hear the story of this famous Pennsylvan­ian, and the times in which he and his family lived. Bingo

Sunday, Feb. 9. Cash Bingo will be held at Sacred Heart Parish Hall, 120 Jefferson St., Bridgeport, PA 19405. Doors open at 12 noon and games start at 12:30, with food and snacks available for purchase (tomato pie, hot dogs, soft pretzels, drinks, etc.). Admission is $ 25 ($20 advance registrati­on) and includes 15 regular games, 4 special games and 1 coverall. Door prizes, a 50/50 and rips offs will also be offered. Parking is available in the school lot (Advantage Academy). To receive advance registrati­on admission price of $20, put name and phone number with payment in an envelope and drop off at Sacred Heart Parish Rectory no later than February 2. Swedesford Garden Club

Meets on February 10th at 6:45 PM at the North Wales Area Library, 233 Swartley Street, North Wales, PA. Club member, Marcia Wicks, will lead the program on “Mason Bee Houses”. Participan­ts will fill nesting tubes with mason bee cocoons and insert the tubes into pre-constructe­d mason bee houses.

The mason bee houses will be available for sale as part of a March SGC fund raiser at the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvan­ia (GCFP) district meeting.

Making History Greater Presentati­on Series

“Meeting Ned:” Thursday, February 13, 2020, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Literacy Council of Norristown: Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer experience, which will impact the lives of adult learners and their families? If so, LCN needs you! LCN matches adult volunteer tutors with other adults needing help with reading, writing, math, GED preparatio­n or English as a Second Language (ESL). Volunteer tutors attend a 1.5 hour Orientatio­n and 12-hour Tutor Training Workshop before being matched with a student. The pair is then expected to meet at a public place twice weekly for 1.5 hours per session for a minimum of six months or until the student goal is met. Casino Night

Mother Teresa Regional Catholic School (MTC) announced today the return of its annual auction night event. This year the theme will be “Casino Night,” where staff, parents and local businesses will participat­e in the evening’s casino related activities. The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 29, with tickets available to the general public starting today. All proceeds from the event will support MTC’s high quality educationa­l programs.
