Montco reports 149 new COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths

NORRISTOWN » Montgomery County officials and the Office of Public Health (OPH) today reported 149 additional individual­s who tested positive and eight individual­s who died of COVID-19 bringing the countywide total to 5,790 cases and 4741 deaths. Forty-nine of the new cases are in longterm care facilities.

“Thanks to the many personal sacrifices made, and continue to be made by Montgomery County residents, our case numbers from the community are trending downward. This is encouragin­g news and points to the positive impact that staying at home and social distancing is having,” said Dr. Valerie A. Arkoosh, Chair, Montgomery County Board of Commission­ers. “Please continue to stay home except for essential work or errands. We are all in this together, and together we will beat COVID-19.”

Of the eight individual­s who died of COVID-19, two had been hospitaliz­ed, five resided in longterm care facilities, and their ages ranged from 81-years-old to 100-yearsold. Of those individual­s, five were female and three were male.

The 149 positive individual­s are from 36 municipali­ties. Sixty-two municipali­ties have been affected. A breakdown of today’s reported cases follows:

The next update on COVID-19 cases and mitigation efforts will be given on Monday, May 18, 2020. There will be no update on Sunday, May 17, 2020.

Montgomery County’s drive-through COVID-19 testing location on the Central Campus of Montgomery County Community College will be open for the week on Sunday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., by appointmen­t only for individual­s that meet the required criteria and as testing supplies allow.
