Police cracking down on unsafe drivers in Norristown

NORRISTOWN » You’ve noticed there are more bad drivers on the road than ever during the stay at home orders?

A lot of other folks have also noticed and so has the Norristown Police Department, which is focusing its attention on certain areas of town notable for unsafe drivers – the Arch Street corridor and Powell Street, the 1400 block north to Johnson Highway, West Oak Street and West Elm Street from about the 600 blocks to the border of Forest Avenue.

“I see it every day coming in to work, people are driving crazy,” noted Lieut. Ken Lawless. “There’s nobody in their way and they take off like a bat out of hell. We feel that when people aren’t coming to a complete stop at a stop sign it’s an unsafe behavior and it allows them to build up speed where they are traveling on the next block at a higher rate of speed than they would normally be going and that higher rate of speed can also create danger issues for the residents in the area,” he added. “The feedback we’re getting from people in the community is that they’re seeing it also and they’re concerned about the safety and wellbeing of the people in the neighborhoods with people driving recklessly.
