Superintendent’s report highlights Norristown Area School District board meeting
WEST NORRITON » The superintendent’s report summarized much of what can be expected in the 2020-21 school year at Monday’s Norristown School Board meeting.
“Though it will look and feel different, we look forward to the opportunities to tell our story, build our community of learning, and promote literacy for life,” noted Christopher Dormer, superintendent of Norristown Area School District.
“We launch into a whole new world of teaching and learning on the first student day next Monday, Aug. 31,” he said. “We are excited to officially launch NASD Virtual, which will have our NASD curriculum delivered by our outstanding NASD teachers. We are proud that we are able to provide a Chromebook to every student that will allow the delivery of synchronous, live lessons daily. Many thanks to Dr. Williams, our entire Curriculum and Instruction team, all of our building principals and assistant principals, and all the teachers who helped align our curriculum to this new mode of learning.”
To help prepare for the upcoming year, the staff has prepared a series of parent information nights, Dormer noted.
“Last week, we held individual nights for elementary, middle school, and high school regarding our academic plans. This week, we will have a session for our Spanish speaking families on Tuesday and a session on Special Education, Pupil Services, and other student and family supports on Wednesday. We hope these sessions will help parents best prepare their children for how the school year will unfold, both synchronously and asynchronously. I cannot say enough about Mr. Long and his entire team for their efforts to get Chromebooks distributed to all students.
