‘Twin Boroughs’ light up streets with luminarias
Royersford and Spring City, known as the “Twin Boroughs,” lit up their streets on Sunday evening with luminarias to celebrate the holiday season.
“Light the Night in the Twin Boroughs!” is an effort that originated from the Woman’s Club of Royersford to coincide with an annual Holiday Historic House Tour (virtual this year to be viewed any time: https://fb.me/ e/3hdSD1VBg for more info, including a sneak peek at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4k8 Ip6brCw&feature=youtu. be) in partnership with the Spring-Ford Area Historical Society.
Neighborhoods in and around both boroughs have an annual tradition of putting out luminarias. This year, these neighborhoods coordinated their tradition to coincide with the Woman’s Club event. An estimated 5,000 lights helped light up the streets of both communities.
Both Royersford and Spring City each hold an annual holiday decorating contest. Both communities made their annual tree-lighting ceremonies virtual for all to enjoy from the safety of home, and everyone is encouraged to incorporate blue lights in their decorations to support their police departments and first responders.
The two communities wish to end the year with some light (literally and figuratively), according to Royersford Mayor Jenna Antoniewicz.
“The lights symbolize continued hope, and though we can’t physically be together, we can still be connected as neighbors,” Antoniewicz said.
While it may seem like there is so much division in our communities, Royersford and Spring City represent the many towns across our commonwealth and country that came together during a challenging time to support our businesses, first responders, essential workers and check in on neighbors.
Organizers wish to thank Alberico Productions for the photography and video footage, the Woman’s Club of Royersford,
the Spring-Ford Area Historical Society, and Royersford and Spring City mayors and borough council members for their support in this initiative.
