LANSDALE >> A Lansdale home was deemed “uninhabitable” following a fire Tuesday morning, according to Rick Lesniak, Lansdale’s fire marshal and emergency management coordinator.

Crews initially responded around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to the home on the 300 block of Clear Spring Road.

“Upon arrival, crews found fire on the front porch extending up into the attic space of the dwelling,” he said.

Lesniak said the blaze was upgraded to a second alarm, which called for additional firefighters to help extinguish the flames, and the fire was placed under control at 11:19 a.m.

“The cause of the fire was fireplace ashes that were disposed of came in contact with combustible materials causing the fire on the front porch,” Lesniak said.

The fire’s cause was later ruled accidental, according to Lesniak.

No one was hurt as the home’s occupant was not in the residence at the time, according to Lesniak, who added that the homeowner has since found another place to stay.

In addition to the Fairmount

Fire Company, firefighters from several neighboring agencies responded including from North Penn, Montgomery Township, Telford, Hatfield, Colmar, and Towamencin Volunteer fire companies, according to Lesniak. He added that the Lansdale Police Department and Volunteer Emergency Medical Services Corps also assisted.

This is the second incident Fairmount Fire Company crews responded to in the past few days.

A detached garage was “completely destroyed” in a fire early Sunday morning.

The blaze caused additional damage to the home on the Winding Road property as well as the neighboring residence, Lesniak said in a Monday interview with The Reporter.

“No, it’s definitely not a common occurrence to have fires this close together,” Lesniak said Wednesday.

The weekend fire remains under investigation.
