Upper Merion girls volleyball tops Great Valley in 5 sets

UPPER MERION 3, GREAT VALLEY 2 » Sophia Schweikert finished with 31 kills and four aces — serving the last on match point — as Upper Merion outlasted Great Valley 25-18, 17-25, 25-15, 1825, 16-14 for a five-set nonleague victory Wednesday.

Vanessa Hutchinson had 20 digs and 14 services points for the Vikings (115, 9-4 PAC Frontier) while Julia Giammarco made 13 digs, including one that led to a Schweikert kill for the 15th point in the fifth set.

Caitlyn Daywalt recorded 31 assists, Sydney Bright had six kills and three blocks while Yalerie Acevedo collected three aces. HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, BOYERTOWN 0 » Grace Howard had 53 assists, eight digs and four aces as HatboroHor­sham topped Boyertown in four sets 27-25, 2628, 25-20, 25-20 to earn a nonleague win.

Kayla Jones led the Hatters with 18 kills while Nastya Tsetsko put down 17 kills. Jade Lauzier and Isabella Bombas added 11 and nine kills, respective­ly.

Hatboro-Horsham finished with 16 aces paced by Jones’ five. Howard finished with four aces, Maci Lumpkin had three, Lauzier collected a pair with Abigail Kostmalski and Ava Santo each having one. POTTSGROVE 3, METHACTON 2» Mel Eglinton led Methacton with 19 kills as the Warriors were up 2-1 after three sets but Pottsgrove rallied to take the PAC match 26-24, 16-25, 13-25, 25-21, 15-13.

Mandy Baldwin had 12 kills for Methacton (9-11, 6-6 PAC Liberty) with Meg Haftl finishing with 42 assists and three aces.

Girls Soccer

PENNRIDGE 2, NORTH PENN 0» Leah Malone scored in the first half, Emily Kriney added another after the break and Pennridge shut out North Penn in their SOL Colonial matchup to stop a two-game skid.

With the win, the Rams improved to 13-2-0 (11-2-0 division) while North Penn is now 5-8-1 (5-7-1).

CB EAST 5, SOUDERTON 1 » Avery Nogami pulled Souderton to within 2-1 in the second half, heading a shot in after Abby Kolb’s ball over the top but Central Bucks East pulled away to hand the Indians an SOL Colonial defeat.

PERK VALLEY 1, METHACTON 0» Nicole Bottomley-Lytle netted the PAC Liberty contest’s lone goal in the first half as Perkiomen Valley picked up the win over Methacton.

Warriors goalie Mairi Smith made three saves while PV keeper Kailie Picard had 10 saves.

UPPER MERION 2, CHELTENHAM 0 » Kyra Favors scored a goal in each half as Upper Moreland ended a two-game losing streak with a shutout SOL Freedom victory.

Willow Taylor assisted on Favors’ first tally while Annalise Messina had the helper on the second for the Golden Bears (7-6-1, 6-6-1 division).

Tuesday’s BAL match was tied 1-1 at halftime before Abby Brown scored twice — both assisted by Abby Mellinger — then had the assist on Kenzie Derstine’s goal as the Pioneers pulled away for the win.

Megan Wenzel gave Dock a 1-0 lead off an Olivia Moyer assist before Sophia Foschi pulled Delco Christian level.

Boys Soccer

ABINGTON 4, WISSAHICKO­N 0 » Abington scored twice in each half in earning a shutout SOL Liberty victory.

The Galloping Ghosts (13-1-1, 11-1-1) have won three straight while Wissahicko­n (6-8-1, 6-7-0) lost its third in a row. SPRINGFIEL­D (M) 1, WILLIAM TENNENT 0 » Tommy Bailey scored off George Navo’s assist in the second half as Springfiel­d edged William Tennent for their fifth straight win.

The Spartans improved to 10-3-1 (9-3-1 division) while Tennent fell to 6-8-1 (6-6-1).

Field Hockey

WISSAHICKO­N 5; ABINGTON 0 » Riley Ball scored Wissahicko­n’s first two goals as the Trojans won their fifth straight by shutting out Abington in the SOL Liberty matchup.

Brynne Miller, Ella Hummel and Julia Schools each had a goal and an assist for Wissahicko­n (14-1-0, 130-0 division). Kate Lovensheim­er added an assist.

Abington goalie Marilyn Capps had 20 saves as the Galloping Ghosts (9-60, 8-5-0) had a three-game win streak snapped. SPRINGFIEL­D (M) 6, WILLIAM TENNENT 0 » Annie Coll scored twice and dished out two assists as Springfiel­d stopped a two-game skid by blanking William Tennent for an SOL Freedom win.

Emma Yoder had two goals and an assist for the Spartans, (9-5-0, 8-4-0 division) who led 4-0 at halftime. Norah Conlin finished with a goal and an assist while Hailey Lesniak added a goal. ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 5, ARCHBISHOP RYAN 0 » Sienna Golden scored in the PCL contest’s first minute and finished with two goals and an assist in Archbishop Carroll’s shutout win.

Cate McConaghy, Laura Wineberg and Shannon Wood each had a goal for the Patriots (10-4-0, 7-0-0 league). Courtland Schumacher and Megan Sheridan both had an assist.

Boys Cross Country

METHACTON 21, PERK VALLEY 34 » Vaughn Lackman edged Methacton teammate Chris McGlynn for first place in a time of 17:06 as the Warriors won the PAC Liberty dual meet.

Methacton’s Bryan Landsberg took third in 17:07.

Girls Cross Country

PERK VALLEY 15, METHACTON 49 » Perkiomen Valley had the PAC Liberty dual meet’s top six times paced by Summer Watts’ winning mark of 19:20.

Brianna Christman led Methacton, placing seventh in 21:37.
