Norristown Garden Club’s Holiday Tour puts a spin on vintage
Tours of public buildings from 18th and 19th centuries will take place of private homes
NORRISTOWN » There’s a new twist for Norristown Garden Club’s Holiday House this year. Public buildings of historic significance, built in the 18th and 19th centuries, will replace private homes for the 2021 tour. These interesting and handsome places will be beautifully decorated in a manner appropriate for each site.
Because of the pandemic, several of the houses can be viewed only from the exterior. Others will have peeks from main hallways. But The Highlands Mansion will feature the full Norristown Garden Club Holiday House treatment with a holiday wedding, a child’s vision of Christmas and more. Also at that site will be crafters offering quilts, watercolor prints, jewelry, Christmas ornaments, greeting cards, honey, and other interesting and beautiful things to help with holiday shopping lists.
Please join the Norristown Garden Club on either Thursday, December 9th or Friday, December 10th to learn more about local history, architecture, and holiday customs of the past. There was no electricity in those centuries so, making the tour even more authenticate, tour hours will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please note that to ensure social distancing the tour will be held on two days. Ticket buyers must designate the day they would like to attend, as tickets will be limited.
This tour benefits the garden club’s $9,000 per year scholarship fund and other community activities.
Tickets are $25 and are available now. Buy through PayPal on the website below or send a businesssized SSE envelope (and extra stamps for more than 5 tickets, please) to: Norristown Garden Club — P. O. Box 742, Spring House PA 19477. Don’t forget to designate which day you wish to attend — Thursday, December 9 or Friday, December 10. Last year’s tour was sold out at the beginning of November.
