7 seek 4 open seats on Methacton School Board
There are four open atlarge seats on the Methacton School Board and seven candidates seeking them. Two of them are incumbents
Joe Rittenhouse, who won a Republican line in the spring primary, withdrew from the race and was replaced on the ballot by Marissa Ruggiero-Rocco.
Greg Young and Jessica Bradbury will also appear on the Republican ballot line.
Only one candidate, incumbent Jennifer Cancro, won both a Democratic and Republican line on the ballot.
The other candidates to appear on the Democratic ballot lines are incumbent Ralph Navarette, Christine Steere and Elizabeth Drummond.
All candidates were invited to respond to MediaNews Group’s online candidate questionnaire. What follows are their responses in the order they were received.
Not all candidates responded.
Elizabeth Drummond
Drummond, 49, lives on Long Meadow Road in
Eagleville. Elected in
2017, she is currently the vice president of the school board.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Penn State University and a master’s degree in business administration in marketing from the University of Pittsburgh.
Drummond works as a constituent services advisor for a local state representative (she did not indicate which one).
In her response, Drummond wrote that she is seeking reelection because “I believe in public education and I love this school district and community. I want to continue our district’s “whole child” approach to education, increase programs and continue our fiscal responsibility. Over the past four years, we have been able to enact full-day kindergarten, increase mental health services to our students and repair and rebuild previously neglected facilities, all while keeping our tax increase the fourth lowest in Montgomery County.”
Given one guaranteed accomplishment in her next term, Drummond chose “an end to bullying.”
Christine Steere
Steere,
49, lives in Worcester and works as a civil rights and employment attorney.
She holds a law degree from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law and bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine
Steere has never held elected office, but added: “I work with and represent municipalities all across Pennsylvania.”
In her response, Steere wrote “as a parent of two children in the Methacton School District and a long-time volunteer, I am running for Methacton School Board to give back to my community that has given so much to my family. I am a proud Methacton parent who has a skill set that would be useful to the Methacton School Board.”
“If I were guaranteed one accomplishment in office,” Steere wrote, “I choose to continue the expansion of academic offerings throughout the District to improve our academic rankings in the state to continue to attract high caliber teachers and administrators to work in Methacton as well as bringing more families to this out
