Outdoor Film Festival with Pre-Show Paddling Trips in Pottstown on May 21
Pedal and Paddle in Pottstown on June 2
The Pedal and Paddle program is a round-trip adventure that includes a group bike ride on the Schuylkill River Trail and a group paddle on the Schuylkill River. The event will begin with about a 4-mile ride on the trail and then participants will paddle that same distance back to the start location. The first Pedal and Paddle activity of this year will be on June 2 at 4 p.m. The start location is Riverfront Park, located at 140 College Drive in Pottstown. There will be an Outdoor Film Festival at Riverfront Park in Pottstown on May 21, following the grand opening of Take It Outdoors. Schuylkill River Greenways invites the community to watch a series of award-winning films about exciting paddling adventures. The film showing begins at 8:30p.m. The Sly Fox Brewery will provide an outdoor beer garden during the event. People can bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages. Free popcorn will be provided. People who register for the outdoor movie event will have the option to add a pre-show paddling trip. Take It Outdoors will provide shuttle services for anyone who wants to participate in one of three group paddling trips. Participants will arrive at Riverfront Park, be shuttled to the paddle start location, and will then paddle on the Schuylkill River back to Riverfront Park. The first trip begins at 4p.m. and will be an 8.5-mile paddle. The second and third trips begin at 5p.m. and 6p.m. Both of those options will be a 4.5mile paddle. Participants can either bring their own boat or rentals can be purchased the day of the event. Event activities will include a farm explorer truck, a smoothie bike, trail art, bike safety education and more. The annual Schuylkill River Sojourn is a seven-day guided paddling trip that begins in Schuylkill Haven on June 18and will end in Philadelphia on June 24. People have the option of doing as little as one day of the event, multiple days, or the entire week-long journey. Every day, a group of more than 100 people will paddle a portion of the Schuylkill River from a kayak and canoe with stops along the way. Each evening, the group stops for dinner and to camp. The paddling activity goes through Schuylkill, Berks, Montgomery, Chester, and Philadelphia Counties. Registration includes expert guides, three meals a day, shuttling services, camping arrangements, education programming and music, and lots more. Montco Trail Challenge Kick-Off in Norristown on June 4
The 7th annual Montgomery County Trail Challenge has begun and will continue until December 4, 2022. The challenge encourages people to visit Montgomery County trails and parks by completing a card for each site they visit. Community members who submit the completed card receive a prize.
The kick-off event for the challenge was originally scheduled for May 7 but because of rain, it was postponed to June. The
