Sherwood Jordan Hewitt passed away at his home in Exton on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. His loving wife of 54 years, Carol Kurtz Hewitt, was by his side for weeks while he was in hospice care. He had just turned 95 one week before his passing. Sherwood, son of William Sherwood Hewitt and Eva Irene Hewitt was born in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvan­ia on March 22, 1927.

Sherwood grew up in Norristown, Pennsylvan­ia and attended Norristown High School. When Sherwood was young, he loved to play sports, especially basketball and baseball. As he grew older his sports interests expanded to playing both football and ice hockey. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II. Ultimately, the war ended prior to Sherwood being deployed into action. He did serve as a medic and worked at various veteran’s hospitals to attend to the wounded after the war ended.

On the GI bill, Sherwood was able to attend Ursinus College in Collegevil­le, Pennsylvan­ia where he obtained a degree in Biology. With this degree, he chose to pursue a career in dentistry at the University of Pennsylvan­ia. Over the course of nearly 45 years, Sherwood built a thriving practice in Norristown.

Upon his retirement, Sherwood could not sit still. He drove a student transport bus for Krapf ’s at West Chester University for many years. By far, Barker Pond in Hiram, Maine was his favorite place to be. Sherwood loved boating, fishing, and swimming at the pond until he was in his late 80’s.

Sherwood is also survived by his four daughters, Lynnette Anne Pitts (the late Robert Pitts), Marcia Janine Fiorella (Michael), Carolyn Irene Burke (Patrick), Wendy Hewitt Vallerscha­mp (Robert); nine grandchild­ren, Jennifer Lynne Scurlock (Shepard), Nicholas Michael Fiorella, Anna Marie Fiorella-Holmes (Matthew), Grace Noelle Fiorella, Olivia Rose Fiorella, Riley Patrick Burke, Emma Rose Burke, Nicole Caroline Burke, Cassandra Boyd Vallerscha­mp, Robert Evan Vallerscha­mp; and one great-grand daughter, Catherine Rose Scurlock.

Relatives and friends are invited to Sherwood’s life celebratio­n on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Mauger Givnish Funeral Home, 24 Monument Avenue, Malvern, PA 19355, where friends may visit 10:00-11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
