Council hires Bearden

GARFIELD — City Council members heard a report from Mike Bearden, attorney, who purchased Slinkard Law Firm, and is under considerat­ion for city attorney.

Code enforcemen­t officer Zannie Morrison told the council he believes the city should have a building inspector, according to the rough draft of the minutes from the Feb. 14 City Council meeting.

Aldermen unanimousl­y approved the resolution to appoint Bearden as city attorney.

A proposal from Dr. Suzan Holt providing a city Website was approved.

In other business, aldermen:

• Tabled an ordinance setting code enforcemen­t fees;

• Agreed to investigat­e possibilit­y of building inspector and tabled discussion until March meeting;

• Heard a report from Zannie Morrison on sign ordinance from Planning Commission; Mayor Gary Blackburn carried the issue forward to the March meeting; and

• Heard a request from alderman Katherine Shook to consider speed limit signs on Wimpy Jones at the March meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:57 p.m.
