The Summit Water Association met on June 3 and, according to member Frank Manasseri, decided by majority vote to have the city of Pea Ridge be sponsor for a loan and operation of their water system with the stipulation that they be exempt from city ordinance 243 which encourages city water users to annex into the city limits. City water superintendent Robert Button said that the system would be totally self-supporting and would be an asset to the city “hydraulically speaking.” The next step in the Summit Water Association’s quest for water is for Pea Ridge City Council to agree to the sponsorship. If the council agrees, Mayor Jackie Crabtree said that the city will make application for a loan through the Summit group’s engineer, Engineering Services Inc., of Springdale and they will negotiate the loan with the lender which Crabtree believed to be Arkansas Soil and Water.
Forty-three students who live in the Pea Ridge School District have been attending school in the Rogers School District without permission. The Rogers system discovered the students, who addresses were flagged by a computer as being in the wrong district. Parents of the students were notified of the discovery by letter. Pea Ridge superintendent Roy Norvell said that some of the students will likely be allowed to remain in the Rogers schools, but some may transfer to Pea Ridge. Any of the students who want to remain in the Rogers schools must go before the Rogers School Board and request a transfer.
