Young volunteer excited about library

- Library Notes OLIVIA SCATES Pea Ridge Volunteer

My name is Olivia Scates. I’m 14 years old and a volunteer at the Pea Ridge Public Library.

Before I volunteered at the Pea Ridge Public Library I was library aideat the middle school, which I enjoyed very much. Once I started working as a library aide at the Middle School, I decided I wanted to become a librarian when I grow up. So, when I was presented with the opportunity of becoming a volunteer at the city library, I jumped at the chance.

Working at the library is a very fun experience. The library to me has a very calm and peaceful atmosphere. Working tasks range from putting books away, checking books out to patrons, and organizing — to more difficult tasks such as adding books to the system and putting spine labels on books. I love tackling new projects though.

I really enjoy getting to know Mrs. (Alex) Wright, Mrs. Young, and Mrs. (Megan) Bryant, who are employees of the library. They are very fun and sweet to work with. I really like how Mrs. Bryant has brought new things to the library such as book clubs, game days, younger volunteers (which has brought me in) and so much more.

I look forward to each day in the library. Although I’ve only been a volunteer for a short time, I’m happy to work there. I’m excited to see where this new path leads me to. Learning new skills, meeting new people, and making a impact is such a blessing. Now that summer in full swing, I get to work longer hours at the place I love, the library.
