Dinner, pie auction raises dough for graduates

- JERRY NICHOLS Special to The TIMES

The annual Ham and Bean Dinner and Pie Auction, sponsored by the Pea Ridge High Sschool Alumni Association, is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Pea Ridge Middle School cafeteria on Weston Street. Serving of the meal is to begin at 5 p.m. and to continue until 7 p.m. The Pie Auction will start at 6 p.m. with Jerry Fitzner as auctioneer. Everyone is invited to enjoy the evening.

All proceeds raised by the dinner and auction go to the Alumni Scholarship Program for the benefit of PRHS graduating seniors as they begin college. Eleven members of the Pea Ridge High School’s 2017 graduating class were granted $1,000 Alumni Scholarships for the 2017-18 college year.

To donate pies or other baked goods for the auction, or volunteer to help in other ways, contact Linda Schooley at 479-451-8574, Jamie Cotton at 479-619-8862 or Nancy Nichols at 479-451-9219.

The PRHS Alumni Association brings together former PRHS students, teachers, administrators and staff members to support today’s students in their educational pursuits. The principle service offered by the organization is the Alumni Scholarship Program, which has grown from offering one $1,000 scholarship in 2007, to offering 11 such scholarships for the current year. The Alumni Association’s leadership hopes to continue growing the Scholarship Program as the community and school enlarges in numbers

of students and expands in the quality and scope of its educational programs. Community members’ help is essential to the achievement of that goal, and every contribution is appreciated.

The PRHS Alumni Association is led by a ninemember Board of Trustees, headed by Ron David, president; Barbara Owen, vice president; Robin Hudson, secretary; Penny Schwitters, treasurer; Jerry Nichols, communications coordinator; and Trustees-at-Large, Linda Schooley, Fayrene Jones and Marcia Cothran. Meetings of the Board are held at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Pea Ridge School Heritage Building downtown on the Intermediate School campus. Friends of Pea Ridge Schools are welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings of the Alumni Board.
