WASKOM, TX - John Michael “Whitt” Whittingto­n, Sr., 81, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023 at his home in Panola, Texas surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on September 24, 1942 to John Paul and Adrienne Witvliet Whittingto­n.

John attended Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Louisiana until its closing. He transferre­d to Woodlawn High School in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated in 1960.

During the course of John’s life he had many interestin­g jobs. When he was growing up he worked for his dad on the family farm in Greenwood, Louisiana. He owned and operated Mike’s Beauty Salon, was a transport driver for Complete Auto Transit, but his greatest achievemen­t was opening and operating Whitt’s B-B-Q in Bethany, Louisiana with his wife, Millicent. John was a people person and never met a stranger.

John loved horseback trail rides, dancing, fishing, restoring old tractors, antiquing with Millicent, eating oysters on the half shell and planting and nurturing his many fruit trees, rose bushes and azaleas.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Millicent Williamson Whittingto­n; sons, John Michael Whittingto­n, Jr. and wife, Yvonne, and Jason Matthew Whittingto­n; daughters, Melanie Lynn Graham and Jacquelyn Michele Whittingto­n; grandchild­ren, Dylan Michael Rogers-Graham, Adrianna Marie Whittingto­n and Jennifer Grace Whittingto­n; and his special cousin, Lisa Witvliet Johnson and husband, Joe Johnson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiatin­g the services will be Rev. McKee Williams. A visitation will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Stonewall Cemetery, Stonewall, Louisiana.

Serving as pallbearer­s will be Bill Williamson, Tommy Williamson, Jay Burford, Chad Burford, Josh Burford and Adam Armstrong.
