Charles D. Walters, Sr. passed away on August 18, 2016 at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine FL. He was born on December 1, 1924 in Kingston, KY, to the late Sidney Walters and Allie Gray.

Charles lived in Bordentown, NJ, for 40 years before moving to Orange Park, FL, 10 years ago. He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years where he earned medals of Honor: Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star and Good Conduct Ribbon. Charles also worked as a projection­ist for a movie theatre for 20 years and for the State of New Jersey Department of Transporta­tion Maintenanc­e for 12 years.

He enjoyed gardening, tinkering on cars and playing bingo. Poker playing was his favorite card game. Having his grandchild­ren and greatgrand­children visit him often gave him great joy.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Kiyoko Walters, daughter, Vernia L. Verdi and grandson, Kyle M. Lynch.

He is survived by daughters, Mary Ann (Anthony) Puca, Betty Jane (Kevin) Lynch, Dorothy J. Pena; son, Charles J. Walters; 10 grandchild­ren and 8 greatgrand­children.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073, (904) 264-1233.
