Mercer County Italian American Fest: The 17th Annual Italian American Festival of Mercer County, presented by Investors Bank, takes over the festival grounds at Mercer County Park for three days of days of great music, food, and fun… Italian-style. Opening at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 23, the festival runs through Sunday, September 25. Created to share and celebrate all things Italian, the festival includes a Food Piazza; an Italian Market with Italian specialty products; a Heritage Pavilion with art, crafts and memorabilia; the indoor Cultural Theater with cultural presentations throughout the weekend; entertainment on two stages including national acts on the Investors Bank Stage; amusement rides; bocce; children’s activities; and the fireworks spectacular on Saturday. The festival will be open 3to 11p.m. on Friday, September 23; noon to 11p.m. on Saturday, September 24; and noon to 9:30p.m. on Sunday, September 25. Admission to the festival is $5. Second Sunday: The Ewing Arts Commission and 31& Main Farmers Market at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ)’s Campus Town have partnered to showcase areas artisans and craftspersons on the Second Sunday of the month in September and October. William Trent House Museum: Photographer and Activist Gary Saretzky will present an illustrated lecture, “19th Century NJ-Based Photographers” on Saturday, September 24, at 1p.m. Of the approximately 3,000different photographers who were active in New Jersey before 1900, more than 250 lived or worked in Mercer County, most of them in Trenton. In a slide lecture, Gary D. Saretzky will profile these pioneers, including Edward H. Stokes who lived in what is now the William Trent House, and discuss them within the larger context of New Jersey photography in the nineteenth century. $8members/$10 nonmembers. Howell Living History Farm’s Anniversary Corn Maze Challenge: A river of shimmering corn runs through Howell Farm’s 20th Anniversary Maze, with a boatload of challenges for those prepared to navigate its waters. The maze is a giant, walk-on puzzle whose pathways form the image of a muledrawn canal boat, the kind that once plied the waters of the nearby Delaware and Raritan (D&R) Canal. Maze goers who find the puzzle pieces that form a map of the maze and who can solve its 3-way game board, are eligible for prizes, boasting rights and a listing on the maze’s giant scoreboard. Maze-goers seeking the ultimate challenge can try solving the maze in the dark, when the moon, stars and lamplight are needed to find the way out. Teambuilding challenges for schools, community groups and businesses are available on weekdays, by reservation only. General admission is $10 for ages 10and older, $8for children ages 5-9and free for children, age 4 and under.
